Why put up a
website about a long-defunct, obscure punk band from Poughkeepsie, NY?
I hadn't thought
of the Malefactors in years. But that changed last year when I was informed
that a former acquaintance was living in Florida and had released a
couple of CDs with his band, which was called--you guessed it--the Malefactors!
Now, it IS true that it's a word right out of the dictionary. But it
doesn't seem right--at least not to me--to use a name when you know
for certain that it belonged to another band, even when that band broke
up fifteen years ago.
Anyway, the
whole thing made me realize that it was time to confront the past that
I had ignored for so many years and put the Malefactors' legacy in order.
I re-established contact with my former bandmates, some of whom I hadn't
seen in years. The surviving artifacts of our old band were rescued
from musty basements, old tapes were transferred to CD, photos were
scanned, and the idea of a website was born.
Like a thousand
others who came before us and will come after us, we were a young, snotty
garage band who almost made it. Now our story can be told...
